This is one of those things that you aren't sure will work when you buy it, although you hope it will.
Well, this is worth the money in my case. I have shrubs that are eight feet high and about six feet thick.
Previously I used a gas powered trimmer while standing on an eight foot stepladder. Gets old fast and hurts your arms after reaching out so far. This electric pole trimmer can trim the top without a ladder and with a short ladder can reach across the top. My only concern was whether the battery would last long enough or provide enough power. Both concerns were needless. I have never ran out of battery power in 30 minutes of trimming.

within 20 min of its first use the motor started to smoke. It was left to cool down for an hour then resumed use. Again smoke. It was sent back to the vendor. I will not replace it.

After a short learning curve this trimmer made short work of my tall bushes. The only negative I experienced was the weight and balance when trimming at the maximum reach. Heavy use of this item will give a great upper-body workout.Black & Decker NPT318 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Hedge Trimmer

This product exceeded my expectations. I now use it in situations where a standard hedge trimmer is used. I fin it easier to use. The length of the pole is proper for trimming most hedges tha in the past required a ladder to reach the top. Now, I can stand on the ground and reach the upper reaches. It does require some arm strength though the weigh tis balanced with the battery in the handle.

Well, it is cordless, and prevents myself from cutting the extension cord to the electrical outlet, as I have done so many times before, therefore shorting out the breakers. Much easier getting the bushes, although it feels extremely heavy if lifting over 4 feet. If the bushes are a little thick, it gets stuck. More for light trimming, sculpting I guess. It serves it's purpose.
